Family Federation for World Peace and
Unification
First, we
need to state that we strongly support both
the ecumenical movement and the freedom of
religion. Our concerns are not an attempt to
change or challenge either of them.
With the
freedom of religion we have the right not
only to practice our religious faith, but to
also state and follow those beliefs. In
doing so we also have the right to defend
that faith. As Christians that apologetic
right is more a commission. That commission
today is based on the heart or essence of
the faith, as summarized in the Apostles'
Creed. This ancient and unchanging core
unites diverse believers with each other and
against unbelievers. When another religion
contradicts our beliefs we need to take a
definite stand.
Without
going into a long drawn out history of the
Unification Church, or the teachings of Sun
Myung Moon, just a few teachings say it all.
Moon teaches that Jesus failed in His
mission, and it is because of that failure
that He had to go on the cross. He teaches
that Jesus was the illegitimate son of Mary
and Zechariah. Jesus came to Moon, told him
about His failure, and asked Moon to do what
He (Jesus Christ) could not accomplish. Moon
calls himself the Lord of the Second Advent
and Messiah. Salvation is based upon being
blessed at Moon's Blessing events. The
"Completed Testament Age" is their age of
the Divine Principle and the close of the
New Testament. Yes, his followers have the
right to follow and believe him (Moon).
However, we have a duty to publicly point
out at least those teachings that are
totally against our Christian faith. We also
believe that when a group is clearly shown
to be, or have destructive, harmful
practices, and separate children from
families, we should be united against such
actions.
Moon
claims to be closing the Unification Church
here in the United States. He has recently
referred to America as being controlled by
Satan. However, he has established a front
known as the Family Federation for World
Peace and Unification. This front is used to
draw people to Moon's mass weddings and
blessings of the marriages.
Our
concern is that when Sun Myung Moon plans
these mass wedding or blessing events many
of the participants and those invited are
from Christian churches. The advertisements
of these events clearly states that they
will be invited to regular meetings.
Again, he
does have the right to have this event. This
is true even though it is now common
knowledge that the so-called "true father"
has an illegitimate son younger than his
oldest living son from marriage. It is also
true that there are several serious
matrimonial problems in the family including
the divorce of his oldest son. That divorce
revealed the son's problems with drugs and
cruelty. This does not sound like true
family values or sinless nature Moon.
teaches. Moon teaches that he, his wife and
children are sinless, he being the messiah
and true father (parents). Surely this is
not something that anyone would want to be
following, but more like something to avoid.
The real
problem is where he is obtaining the
participants. Moon has reconstructed his
mass weddings to blessed events. Moon has
also changed the sponsor of the mass wedding
from the Unification Church, to the Family
Federation for World Peace and Unification.
In this change he says that those taking
part can maintain their membership in any
other church. Those taking part receive
Moon's holy wine and are promised eternal
salvation. He further teaches that this is
the only way to true salvation. The Family
Federation for World Peace and Unification
is clearly nothing more than a front group
of the Unification Church and is being
trained to infiltrate and steal members from
our Christian churches. We need to protect
our flocks and make them aware of the facts.
If we continue to ignore this movement, or
appear to support it, we are failing in our
Christian ministries.
Therefore
we are requesting your help in revealing the
truth about this movement and in making
those in our care aware of the truth and
dangers of this movement.
Christians need to know what Sun Myung Moon
really teaches. In addition to the previous
statements, Moon also stated:
"Simply
put, God and my family have become one. Your
family then should become one with my
family..." (Today's World, September/October
1994, p.8.)
"Until
our mission with the Christians is over we
must quote the Bible and use it to explain
the Divine Principle. After we receive the
inheritance of the Christian church, we will
be free to teach without the Bible." (Master
Speaks 7, page 1)
"In early
July, I spoke in five cities around Korea
and rallies held by the Women's Federation
for World Peace. There I declared that we
are the savior, the Lord of the Second
Advent, the Messiah." (Rev. Moon, Today's
World, Oct./Nov., 1992, p.7)
"From the
beginning the purpose of Christianity was to
create one world under God, but they did not
know who the true owner was to be. The true
sovereign is not the American president not
the English king, but the Lord of the Second
Advent." (Sun Myung Moon, Unification News,
Nov., 1993, p.3)
"Any
politician who wants to run for president
will come to me in a few years." (Moon,
Today's World, Nov./Dec. 1994, p. 19)
"Am I
foolish and insignificant or am I great? I
gave all individuals in the world cause to
kneel down in front of me." (Sun Myung Moon,
Today's World, March 1995, p. 6)
"The time
has come when the whole world must be
concerned about me. From now on, American
Christianity must follow me." (Sun Myung
Moon, Today's World, Nov. 1993, p. 5)
Since
these teachings and beliefs are against both
Christianity and what America stands for we
need to take a stand against them. Our Lord
Jesus Christ did not fail and is the Way,
the Truth and the Life (John 14:6)
Our
country is one nation under God not Sun
Myung Moon.
