Myung Moon: What Every American Should Know
Dear Fellow American,
This tract is
not about freedom of religion or freedom of speech.
We can be proud that as Americans we have both those
freedoms. However, we must use the rights of those
freedoms to protect America and ourselves.
Sun Myung
Moon is the founder and leader of the Unification
Church, which is now called the Family Federation
for World Peace and Unification. He is currently on
a speaking tour across the United States. This tour
is labeled "We Will Stand! 2001 fifty state national
tour to rebuild the family, restore the community
and renew the nation and the world. Let is look
carefully at what this is all about. One side note,
his tour does not include West Virginia, which he
may feel is either not a state or he cannot change.
However, we need to look at Moon's teachings to
understand the full messages here.
Even though
Moon is gathering some Christian ministers to follow
him along the way, his teachings are totally against
Christianity. Many of his statements can be found
in the booklet, "Sun Myung Moon: What Every
Christian Should Know" and on the web- site >www.TLEM.net<.
Therefore we list only a couple of those teachings
here.
"I know the
established Christian theology. I know the enemy,
but the enemy doesn't know me. Thus the enemy has
already lost the war" (Sun Myung Moon, Today's
World, November 1993, p. 14)
"Abraham was the father of faith, Moses was a man of
faith, Jesus was the son of man, trying to carry out
his mission at the cost of his life. But they are,
in a way, failures." (Master Speaks, "Victory of
Defeat"," translated by Won Pok Choi, March 31,
1973, p.1)
"Of course, in order that the ministers feel at
home, you must declare your love to Brother Jesus,
but at the same time do not forget you goal, which
is to bring them to the Lord of the Second Advent."
(The Victory of Love, 1992, pp. 65-66)
While those
statements may apply to Christians, Moon goes far
beyond that in his teachings and his reach for
power. Moon does not believe in the separation of
church and state. Some of his teachings clearly
demonstrate not only the combining of the two, but
also that he "the messiah, lord of the second
advent, savior and empire of the universe (this
world and the next) (Sun Myung Moon) should be that
ruler.
"In the
Medieval ages, they had no separate
cities-statesmanship from the religious field-
because people were corrupted at the time. But when
it comes to our age, we must have an automatic
theocracy to rule the world. So we cannot separate
the political field from the religious." (Sun Myung
Moon, Master Speaks, May 17, 1973, p.12)
"The whole
world is in my hand, I will conquer and subjugate
the world." (Sun Myung Moon, Master Speaks, May 17,
1973)
"Am I foolish and insignificant or am I great? I
gave all individuals in the world cause to kneel
down in front of me." (Sun Myung Moon, Today's
World, March 1995, p. 6)
"So from this time of peak every person or every
organization that goes against the Unification
Church will gradually come down or drastically come
down and die. Many people will diethose who do
against our movement." (Sun Myung Moon, Master
Speaks, February 14, 1974)
"Any
politician who wants to run for president will come
to me in a few years." (Sun Myung Moon, Today's
World, Nov./Dec. 1994, p.19
"No matter how difficult your situation may be you
have to follow the Lord of the Second Advent
completely." (Sun Myung Moon, Today's World, August
1996, p.13)
"The time has come when the whole world must be
concerned about me. From now on, American
Christianity must follow me." (Sun Myung Moon,
Today's World, November 1993, p.5)
Thus, when he
is teaching about rebuilding the family, he is
rebuilding it around himself. As a parent he claims
his children are sinless, yet his oldest son was
divorced because of his abuse to his wife, an
alcoholic/drug and pornography problems. Another
son committed suicide and also had family marriage
problems. There are reports that at least two of
his daughters are unhappy with their family life.
He himself had at least two illegitimate sons, one
while married to his present wife, and one while
married to a previous wife. He deserted his first
wife and their three-month old son for six years.
He then divorced her shortly after his return. For
the most part, church members raised his children,
and he actually suggests parents have their children
also raised by group foster case so that they would
be free to promote the growth of the church. This
is not the family style we should try to follow. In
restoring the community and renewing the nation and
the world the message is very clear that he wants to
rule the world.
Gold watches,
fancy rings, being wine and dined, or fat checks
should not be worth the cost of our freedom. You
need to as, Paul Harvey emphasizes, "know the of the
story." Now that you have a clearer picture of
Moon's goals and the rest of the story, I pray you
will not support him, but rather speak out against
his teachings and help to protect that which we all
hold so dear.
